Mya Thayer: Driven by Discipline, Grounded by Family

Meet Mya Thayer, a rising junior at Fort Pierce Central High School, making her mark on the varsity flag football team as a dynamic outside linebacker. Wearing jersey number 6, Mya has quickly earned a reputation for her competitive spirit, sharp instincts, and relentless work ethic—traits not only shaped by the game but rooted deeply in who she is.

Standing 5'3" and weighing 125 lbs, Mya is a powerful presence on the field despite this being just her first year in the sport. With a 3.3 GPA, she strikes a balance between academics and athletics, driven by a clear vision for the future: to play sports at the collegiate level.

But her passions stretch beyond the field. Mya also plays soccer, enjoys working out, and finds peace on walks with her dog. Science is her favorite subject—a surprise to many who may not expect such a bold athlete to geek out over biology or chemistry.

People describe Mya as competitive, observant, and funny, and she’s happiest when she’s with her sister, who she names as her greatest role model. “She’s been through everything with me and never turned on me,” Mya says. “She makes me laugh and pushes me to not give up.”

Her biggest motivation? Herself. “I tell myself how bad I really want it and how much I’m willing to do for it,” she shares. That drive is fueled by faith, with her personal motto coming from 1 Peter 5:7: "Overthinking will kill your peace. Pray and leave it to God."

When asked what sets her apart, Mya doesn’t hesitate: “My motivation.” It’s that self-driven mentality that helps her push through adversity—especially when she feels she could have handled things differently. That self-awareness is part of what makes her so grounded.

Outside of sports, her heart belongs to her sister and her dog, the two she says are most important to her. She dreams of traveling to Tokyo, Japan, fascinated by the city’s vibrant car culture. And ten years from now? “Married to a D1 athlete,” she says with a smile.

Her top college choices are Keiser, Clemson, and STU (St. Thomas University)—all schools where she believes she can grow as both a student and an athlete. Because for Mya, being a student-athlete is more than a title. “It keeps you disciplined,” she says. And that discipline is something she carries with her daily—even in her quietest moments before bed, when she reflects on her day and how it could’ve gone differently.

Mya Thayer is more than just a promising athlete. She's a motivated young woman, anchored by faith, guided by family, and relentlessly chasing her goals—on and off the field.
